TP-Link Router Default Password and Login (tplinkwifi.net)

TP-Link routers are among the most common home routers in Nepal and worldwide. This guide covers how to open the login page, what the default username and password are, what to do if you forgot the password, and how to reset the router and change the Wi-Fi password.

Quick answer: TP-Link default login

ItemDefault
Login addresstplinkwifi.net, or 192.168.0.1 (some models 192.168.1.1)
New routersNo default password. You create the admin password the first time you log in
Older modelsUsername admin and password admin

If your TP-Link was supplied by an ISP, the ISP may have changed the login. Check the label first, then ask your provider.

How to log in to a TP-Link router

  1. Connect your phone or computer to the router by Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. The admin page works even without internet.
  2. Open a browser and type tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1 in the address bar, not the search bar. See the router login guide for the common addresses.
  3. If the browser shows a certificate warning, choose Advanced and continue to the address. The page uses a self-signed certificate.
  4. On a new router, create an admin password. On an older one, try admin / admin. If you linked a TP-Link ID, you can sign in with it instead.

If the login page won’t open

  • Try 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 directly.
  • Turn off any VPN or proxy.
  • Use an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi.
  • Try another browser or device and clear the cache.

Forgot the TP-Link password?

If you forgot the password you set, there is no recovery from the login page. TP-Link states that you need to factory reset the router to regain access.

How to factory reset a TP-Link router

With the button: keep the router powered on, then press and hold the Reset button (or the WPS/Reset button) for more than 10 seconds. Release it when the SYS LED changes from slow to fast flashing. On a combined WPS/Reset button, a press under 5 seconds starts WPS instead. Some models use a pinhole that needs a pin. Keep the router powered while it reboots.

From the web page: log in, go to Advanced, then System (or System Tools), then Backup and Restore, and click Factory Restore.

Warning: a factory reset cannot be undone. It erases your internet, Wi-Fi, port forwarding and parental control settings. The login and IP go back to the defaults on the label. If the router connects through PPPoE, note your ISP username and password before resetting, because you will have to enter them again. For other brands see how to reset a router to factory default.

How to change the TP-Link Wi-Fi password

  1. Log in at tplinkwifi.net.
  2. Open Wireless (older interface) or Basic, then Wireless (newer interface).
  3. Set the network name and a new password. Use WPA2 or WPA3 and at least 12 characters.
  4. Save. Your devices will need the new password.

Menu names differ slightly between models and firmware versions. You can then check who is connected with this guide to seeing who is connected to your WiFi.

Security tips

  • Never leave admin / admin on a router.
  • Use a long, unique admin password that is different from your Wi-Fi password.
  • Keep the firmware updated.
  • Turn off remote management unless you need it.

TP-Link behind an ISP ONT

Many fiber customers use a TP-Link router behind the ISP’s ONT. In that case the ONT has its own login, and you can read how it works in how an ISP network works from OLT to home. For the ONT login see the Nokia, ZTE or FiberHome guides.
