Setting the time on the Huawei SmartAX MA5600
Setting the Time on Huawei SmartAX OLT
Last updated: September 2026
Applies to: Huawei SmartAX MA5600T, MA5608T, MA5683T, and MA5800 series OLTs.
TL;DR: Set the OLT’s timezone with
timezone, optionally set the date/time manually with time, then sync it automatically with ntp-service unicast-server <ip> source-interface <interface> and confirm with display ntp-service status.Values in red are examples — replace the timezone, dates, IP address, and interface with your own.
Step 1 – Check Current Time Settings
Before making changes, see what the OLT currently has configured:
display time
display timezone
display time dst
display time time-stamp
display time-range
display ntp-serviceStep 2 – Set the Time Zone
time time-stamp utc
timezone GMT+02:00Step 3 – Manually Set the Time and Date (Optional)
Set just the time, or the time and date together:
time 12:53:00
time 12:53:00 2019-03-20Skip this step if you’re using NTP — Step 4 keeps the clock accurate automatically.
Step 4 – Configure NTP Synchronization
Point the OLT at an NTP server and specify which interface to send requests through — here the management interface (meth 0):
ntp-service unicast-server 192.168.2.2 source-interface meth 0Step 5 – Verify Time Synchronization
display ntp-service status
display ntp-service sessions
display ntp-service traceStep 6 – Configure Daylight Saving Time (Optional)
Set automatic transitions to summer/winter time — for example, starting April 1 and ending October 28:
time dst start 4-1 00:00:00 end 10-28 00:00:00 adjust 01:00Skip this step if your region doesn’t observe daylight saving time.

FAQ
Do I need to set the time manually if I’m using NTP?
No. Once
No. Once
ntp-service unicast-server is configured and syncing successfully, the OLT keeps its own clock updated automatically — manual time commands are only useful as a one-off fix or when no NTP server is reachable.
Which interface should I use for
Use whichever interface can actually reach your NTP server — typically the management interface (

meth 0) if the server is reachable through your management network, or an uplink VLAN interface if it needs to go out through the data network.
How do I confirm NTP synchronization actually worked?
Run
Run
display ntp-service status — it shows whether the clock is synchronized and which server it’s synced to. display ntp-service sessions shows the session details if you need more depth.
Do I need to configure daylight saving time?

time dst entirely — leaving it unset means the OLT’s clock won’t shift automatically at any point in the year.
