Delete Ont From Huawei OLT [Step-by-Step Instructions]
You can delete an ONT from a Huawei OLT using the command-line interface (CLI). Connect to the OLT via a terminal emulator such as PuTTY, then follow the steps below.
Note: values shown in red (description, serial number, port, and ONT ID) are examples only — replace them with your own values.
1. Log In and Find the ONT You Want to Delete
Enter configuration mode:
enable
configSearch for the ONT by description or serial number:
display ont info by-desc Madanor
display ont info by-sn 0000000000002. Remove the Service Port
Before deleting the ONT itself, remove its service port:
undo service-port port 0/5/12 ont 24You’ll be prompted to confirm:
Are you sure to release service virtual port(s)? (y/n)[n]: y
Service virtual ports on the ONT are being deleted, please wait: 100%
The number of total service virtual port which need be deleted: 1
The number of total service virtual port which have been deleted: 1This step can take a few minutes and the console may time out. If that happens, raise the session timeout first with idle-timeout.
3. Enter the GPON Interface and Delete the ONT
interface gpon 0/5
ont delete 12 24You should see confirmation that the deletion succeeded:
Number of ONTs that can be deleted: 1, success: 14. Exit and Save
quit

Before You Delete
- Make sure all configuration tied to the ONT — service ports, VLAN bindings, profiles — has been removed first. Leaving orphaned config can affect other ONTs or services on the same OLT.
- Power off and physically disconnect the ONT before deleting it, so it doesn’t try to re-register mid-process.
- Double-check the port and ONT ID before running
ont delete— deleting the wrong ONT drops that customer’s service immediately.
FAQ
What happens if the console times out mid-deletion?
The service-port removal step can take a few minutes on some OLTs. Set a longer session timeout with idle-timeout before starting, so the CLI doesn’t disconnect while ports are being released.
Do I need to remove the service port before deleting the ONT?
Yes. Deleting the ONT while its service port is still active can leave orphaned entries in the configuration. Always run undo service-port first.
Can I delete an ONT that’s still powered on and connected?
It’s best not to. Power it off and disconnect it physically first, so it can’t attempt to re-register with the OLT during the deletion process.
How do I confirm the ONT was fully removed?
Run display ont info by-desc or display ont info by-sn again with the same search term — it should no longer return a result once deletion and save are complete.
