Last updated: September 2026

Applies to: Huawei SmartAX MA5600T, MA5608T, MA5683T, and MA5800 series OLTs.

TL;DR: Add a Huawei OLT user with terminal user name, remove one with undo terminal user name <name>, and use the various display terminal user ... commands to view accounts, sessions, and permissions.

Below are commands and their descriptions for managing the accounts of users who administer the device.

Values in red (usernames and passwords) are examples — replace them with your own.

Step 1 – Add a New User

The OLT prompts you for these values in order. The password must contain Latin letters, numbers, and at least one uppercase letter:

terminal user name NAME PASSWORD 1 3

Step 2 – Delete a User

undo terminal user name NAME

Step 3 – View User Information

View a list of all users:

display terminal user all

View information about a specific user:

display terminal user name NAME

View user expiration time:

display terminal user expired-time all

View locked users:

display terminal user locked

View login failure records:

display terminal user login failure

View users currently online:

display terminal user online

View available user profiles:

display terminal user-profile all

Step 4 – View Command History

See the history of commands entered by every user on the device:

display log cli all

Step 5 – Change User Attributes

These commands walk you through updating an existing user’s password, profile, privilege level, or other settings interactively:

terminal user password terminal user user-profile terminal user level terminal user reenter terminal user apdinfo

FAQ

What are the password requirements for a new user?
The password must contain Latin letters and numbers, and include at least one uppercase letter. Weak passwords that don’t meet this won’t be accepted.
How do I see who is currently logged into the OLT?
Run display terminal user online to see every active session on the device right now.
What’s the difference between “locked” users and “login failure” records?
display terminal user locked shows accounts currently locked out (usually after too many failed attempts), while display terminal user login failure shows the history of failed login attempts, whether or not they resulted in a lock.
Can I change a user’s privilege level without resetting their password?
Yes. Use terminal user level to change only the privilege level — it’s a separate interactive command from terminal user password, which only changes the password.
