View and Configure Logs on the Huawei SmartAX OLT

Last updated: September 2026

Applies to: Huawei SmartAX MA5600T, MA5608T, MA5683T, and MA5800 series OLTs.

TL;DR: View admin and command history with display log security and display log all, adjust how much of it is kept with log modify <type> memory, and forward logs to a remote server by adding it with loghost add and enabling syslog enable alarm-event.

Values in red are examples — replace the IP address, server name, and dates with your own.

Step 1 – View Administrator Connection History

See a history of administrator logins to the device, including Telnet connections:

display log security

Step 2 – View Command History

See every command that’s been entered on the device — CLI commands, and SNMP commands sent from a NMS like U2000:

All commands, or CLI-only:

display log all display log cli

Filter by log name (e.g. “security”, “cli”):

display log name security

SNMP commands only:

display log snmp all

Step 3 – View Commands That Failed to Execute

display log failure

Step 4 – View and Change Log Memory Size

Check how much memory is allocated to logs, and adjust it for security or operating logs separately:

display log memory log modify security memory log modify operating memory

Step 5 – View a Specific Log Entry

Look up one entry by its index number:

display log index 1

Step 6 – View Syslog Server Settings

display syslog display syslog output display syslog priority display syslog source display loghost list display loghost list ip display loghost list name

Step 7 – Add, Activate, Deactivate, or Delete a Syslog Server

Add a syslog server with an IP address and a friendly name, then manage it by either identifier:

loghost add 192.168.2.2 test loghost activate ip 192.168.2.2 loghost activate name test loghost deactivate ip 192.168.2.2 loghost deactivate name test loghost delete ip 192.168.2.2 loghost delete name test

Step 8 – Set the Log Level Sent to Syslog

Available severity levels are: emergency, alert, critical, error, warning, notice, informational, and debug. To send all of them to the syslog server:

syslog output all

Step 9 – Forward Alarm Events to Syslog

Enable or disable sending alarm events to the syslog server:

syslog enable alarm-event syslog disable alarm-event

To sync existing alarm events to the syslog server — either everything, or a specific time range:

syslog sync alarm-event syslog sync alarm-event time start 2019-05-05 12:00:00 end 2019-05-06 12:00:00

FAQ

What’s the difference between display log all and display log security?
display log security shows administrator login/connection events specifically, while display log all shows the full command history across CLI and SNMP.
Why would I increase the log memory size?
If you’re troubleshooting an intermittent issue and need a longer history of commands or security events before they get overwritten, increasing memory with log modify keeps more entries available.
How do I stop sending logs to a syslog server without deleting it?
Use loghost deactivate ip <ip> or loghost deactivate name <name>. This pauses forwarding while keeping the server configured, so you can reactivate it later without re-adding it.
Can I forward only certain log severities to syslog?
Yes — the OLT supports eight severity levels (emergency through debug). syslog output all sends everything; check display syslog output for the exact syntax to restrict it to specific levels on your firmware.
