192.168.8.1 Login: Huawei Mobile Wi-Fi Password, Settings and Fixes

By Madan Kc, ISP/GPON engineer at DG Link Network ยท Updated

Quick answer: 192.168.8.1 is the login address of most Huawei mobile Wi-Fi (E-series) and 4G/5G routers (B-series). Connect to the device by Wi-Fi or cable, open http://192.168.8.1 in a browser, and enter the web login password. Huawei says the default address and password are on the label on the device. Many units use admin for the password, and newer ones ask you to set a new one at first login.

How to log in

  1. Switch the device on and connect your phone or laptop to its Wi-Fi, or to its USB or LAN port.
  2. Open a browser and type 192.168.8.1 in the address bar, not in the search box. Use http://192.168.8.1.
  3. Enter the login password from the label or the one you set, then press Log In.

Some models also answer to a name such as mobilewifi.home or speedwifi.home, but the IP address is the safe choice because the names depend on the model and carrier. If your router uses a different address, such as 192.168.1.1, see the 192.168.1.1 login guide.

Default password and the two passwords people mix up

A Huawei mobile router has two different passwords, and mixing them up is the most common reason for a failed login.

Two passwords on a Huawei mobile Wi-Fi device
PasswordWhat it doesWhere to find it
Wi-Fi (WLAN) passwordLets a phone or laptop join the Wi-FiLabel on the device or under the battery cover
Web login passwordLets you open the settings page at 192.168.8.1Label, if printed. Otherwise try admin, or the one you set at first login

Huawei’s own support page says the web login password is separate from the Wi-Fi password and that carrier-branded versions may use different defaults, so check the label or ask your carrier. I am not listing carrier-specific or hidden admin accounts.

Lockout: after several wrong attempts the device can lock the login page for a few minutes. Wait, then try again instead of guessing repeatedly.

Change the login password and Wi-Fi password

Web login password. Huawei documents this path: Advanced > System > Modify Password. Enter the current password, the new one twice, then Save. On some newer HiLink-style interfaces the menu may be called Settings, so look for a System or Password item.

Wi-Fi name and password. Open the settings page and look for the Wi-Fi or WLAN settings. Change the Wi-Fi name (SSID) and the Wi-Fi password, choose WPA2 (or WPA2/WPA3 if offered), and use at least 12 characters. Save, then reconnect your devices with the new password. Menu names differ between models and firmware, so I am describing the idea, not an exact screen.

If you use a different Huawei home router or fibre box, see Huawei router Wi-Fi password change, or the HG8145V5 default password and login guide. To check who is connected afterwards, read how to see who is connected to my Wi-Fi.

Can’t open 192.168.8.1? Fixes in order

  1. Make sure you are connected to this device, not another Wi-Fi or mobile data. Turn mobile data off on your phone.
  2. Type the address in the address bar with http://, not https://.
  3. Use a USB cable or LAN cable if Wi-Fi is unstable, and turn off any VPN.
  4. Try a private window or another browser, or clear the cache.
  5. Check your computer gets an IP like 192.168.8.x. If it shows an address from a different range, the router address is different. Look at the default gateway in the network details.
  6. Restart the device and try again.
  7. If the page opens but the password fails, see the section above and then the reset section below.

If the router connects but there is no internet, the cause is the SIM, APN or signal, not the login. Check that the SIM is active, mobile data is enabled in the router settings, and the APN matches your carrier.

Forgot the password? Factory reset

  1. With the device on, find the small Reset hole.
  2. Press and hold it with a pin until the device restarts. The exact time varies, so check the quick start guide for your model.
  3. Reconnect using the Wi-Fi name and password printed on the label, then log in with the default web password.
Warning: a reset removes your own Wi-Fi name, password, APN and other settings, and it can remove carrier configuration. Note your APN first. If the router was supplied by a carrier, ask them before resetting. For routers in general, see how to factory reset a router.
