Huawei OLT Default IP, Username and Password (MA5608T, MA5680T, MA5800)

Default IP and login

Guides disagree on exactly which release switched the password, so treat the table as a starting point and try both. If the OLT was already configured by someone else, those defaults will not work: use that account, or ask whoever set it up. I am not listing any ISP-specific or hidden accounts.

How to connect for the first time

1. Serial console (works on every unit): plug a console cable into the control board, open a terminal program at 9600 baud, and log in with root. This is the safest first login because it needs no IP at all.
2. Network (maintenance port): set your PC to 10.11.104.1/24, plug it into the control board’s maintenance Ethernet port, then connect with SSH or Telnet to 10.11.104.2. On some MA5800 models Telnet must be enabled first, so SSH is the first thing to try.

Once you see the prompt (for example MA5608T>), enter privileged mode and then configuration mode:

MA5608T> enable
MA5608T# config
MA5608T(config)#

Set your own management IP

Do not leave a production OLT on 10.11.104.2. You have two options.

Out-of-band (maintenance port):

MA5608T(config-if-meth0)# quit

In-band (over the uplink, VLAN 300 as an example):

MA5608T(config)# interface vlanif 300
MA5608T(config-if-vlanif300)# ip address 10.200.0.2 255.255.255.0

For the in-band option, VLAN 300 must also exist and be tagged on the uplink port, for example port vlan 300 0/19 0 (use your own uplink slot and port). Then set the default route:

MA5608T(config)# undo ip route-static 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
MA5608T(config)# ip route-static 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.200.0.1

After changing the IP you will lose the old session: reconnect on the new address. If you manage the OLT through a router, a MikroTik PPPoE server setup is a common next step.

Change the root password and save

MA5608T(config)# terminal user password
MA5608T(config)# save

The command asks for the old and new password. Press Enter again when it asks to confirm saving. To create a separate admin account instead of sharing root, use terminal user name, and give it the Administrator level.

Can’t log in? Fixes in order

1. Try both passwords: admin and admin123. The username is lowercase root.
2. Check that your PC is on 10.11.104.1/24 and cabled to the maintenance port, not an uplink or PON port.
3. Ping 10.11.104.2. No reply means a cabling or IP problem, not a password problem.
4. Use SSH if Telnet is refused. On some MA5800 models Telnet is off by default.
5. Log in from the serial console. It bypasses any IP or VLAN misconfiguration.
6. If the OLT was used before, the IP and password were probably changed. Ask the previous administrator, or consult Huawei support: a forgotten password on a live OLT should be recovered by the owner through official procedures, not by guesswork.
