Nepal’s Mobile Device Management System (MDMS)

Nepal Telecommunication, with the purpose of banning the use of grey market smartphones in Nepal, has implemented a mobile device management system in Nepal.
One of the major issues in the Nepali smartphone market was the unofficial import and use of illegal smartphones.
Grey smartphones are smartphones that are imported illegally through unofficial channels. They do not have type approval from the Nepal Telecommunication Authority. The black market was a headache for the genuine smartphone sellers as the grey market would provide the grey smartphones at a lower price than the actual price.
The topic of the black market for smartphones was trending, whereas the government was missing the revenue and the genuine importers were struggling to operate their business. Keeping all these problems in view, the government of Nepal implemented the MDMS system in Nepal.

What is MDMS?

To minimize and control the black market, illegal and bulk personal imports, IMEI registration of smartphones is mandatory. The MDMS is a mobile device management system in which any kind of smartphone must be registered with the Nepal Telecommunication Authority under the government of Nepal.
The MDMS system in Nepal was proposed in 2078 , but later on it was successfully implemented from Bhadra 30, 2079.

How can you tell if your device is registered in the MDMS system?

The government of Nepal automatically registers the mobile phones imported by the official and authorized importers of smartphones in Nepal. To check if your device is registered in the MDMS system or not, you should visit the website of MDMS. Click here to be redirected to the website.
