How to set an avatar in Zoom on a computer or phone

To make it convenient for the organizer and other conference participants to identify you, you can put an avatar in your Zoom profile. You can do this on the mobile version of the program or on a computer. A profile photo is also useful if you don’t have a webcam or if the camera doesn’t work. There are three ways to install an image: in the Zoom program itself on a computer or phone, as well as through the official website. Let’s start with the simplest and fastest option.

Set a profile photo via PC version

The fastest and most convenient way to change your profile picture is to use the desktop client. To upload your photo, launch Zoom on your PC or laptop. Log in using your username and password, then follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the gear icon to open the “Settings” window in the program.

     Go to the program settings

  1. Go to the “Profile” section.
  1. Move the mouse over the area of the photo and click there.

     Go to photo editing

  1. Next, in the file system of the computer, select a photo.
  1. Crop the image and click Save.

Crop the picture and save it.

We recommend that you prepare a photo with a large face of good quality in advance; portrait shots are suitable for an avatar.

How to set or change the profile picture on the phone

If you are using the mobile version of the program, the steps are similar. The picture can be prepared in advance or taken using the front camera of the smartphone.

  1. Launch Zoom and go to settings.
  1. In the first line with the profile, click on the arrow (marked with the number 2).

    Open settings

  1. Select a profile photo.

Expand the profile photo by clicking on it.

  1. Next, you can select a picture from the “Select Photo” gallery. Or click “Take a picture”—then the smartphone’s camera is activated.

Take a picture or upload from the gallery.

If you select “Take a picture”, the program may ask you for permission to use your multimedia and camera. Select Allow.

We install photos through the site.

The third way to change the profile avatar is to go to your personal account on the official website. You can go there at us04web.zoom.us/profile. Then enter your email or username and password. You will be taken to a page for editing contact information.

  1. Below the photo area, click the “Edit” link.

     Click Change

  1. Next, click the gray Upload button and select an image.

    Click Upload

  1. Frame the active area (the whole face should fit in the frame) and click “Save”.

    Selecting and cropping an image

Please note that the file must be in jpg/jpeg, gif, or png format and be less than 2 MB in order to upload and crop the image to use it as a profile picture.

Conclusions

As you can see, you can change a photo in Zoom in any of three ways. If you are studying remotely, conducting a lesson, or are present, put your face on the avatar so that other participants can see with whom the lesson is being held. Whether everything worked out, please write in the comments under this page. Also, ask any questions about using the program. After your questions, we write materials on topics that interest you.
