BDCOM OLT Default Password and Login: What It Is and How to Reset It

You have a BDCOM OLT in front of you and you need to log in, or the old password is gone. This guide gives the default login, the console settings, how to change the password, and what to do when you are locked out.

BDCOM OLT Default Username and Password

After a factory reset, a BDCOM OLT uses:

  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin

BDCOM’s own FAQ states that after a reset the username and password are admin/admin. Many installers see the same login on a new unit. If your OLT was already used, someone has probably changed it, so the default will no longer work.

Change it as soon as you log in. Anyone who can reach the management address can log in with admin/admin.

How to Log In for the First Time

Use the console cable. It works even when no management IP is set.

  1. Connect an RS232-to-RJ45 console cable from your PC to the OLT console port.
  2. Open PuTTY and choose Serial. Pick the COM port shown in Device Manager.
  3. Set speed 9600, data bits 8, parity None, stop bits 1, flow control None.
  4. Press Enter and log in with the username and password.

Then enter privileged mode:

enable
config

Once a management IP is set, you can use SSH or Telnet instead. See the BDCOM OLT Complete Setup Guide for the full first-time setup.

How to Change the Default Password

From configuration mode:

enable
config
username admin password YourStrongPassword
service password-encryption
exit
write all
  • username admin password sets the new login password. Replace YourStrongPassword with your own.
  • service password-encryption stops passwords showing in plain text in show running-config.
  • write all saves the change so it survives a reboot.

You can also set a separate password for enable mode with enable password. Write every password down in a safe place before you close the session.

Forgot the Password? Try This First

BDCOM’s FAQ describes a recovery method through the console. It does not erase your configuration:

  1. Connect to the console port.
  2. Reboot the OLT.
  3. During boot, press CTRL + P to enter monitor mode.
  4. Run show configuration.

If passwords were not encrypted, they may appear in clear text in the output. If you had already turned on service password-encryption, this will not reveal them, and you will need a factory reset.

Factory Reset a BDCOM OLT

Warning: a factory reset erases your whole configuration, including VLANs, ONU bindings and profiles. Save a copy of the running config first if you can still log in.

BDCOM OLTs have no reset button, so you do it from the command line. Per BDCOM’s FAQ, deleting the startup configuration returns the unit to factory defaults:

enable
delete startup-config
reboot

Confirm any prompts with y. Some EPON guides also delete config.db and ifindex-config before rebooting. If your model asks for them, confirm them the same way.

When the OLT comes back, log in with admin/admin and set a new password straight away.

After a reset, every ONU registration is gone. Re-register your ONUs using How to Register and Remove ONT in BDCOM OLT. If an ONU stays deregistered afterwards, use the BDCOM ONU offline troubleshooting guide.

FAQ

What is the default username and password of a BDCOM OLT?

The default is admin for both username and password. BDCOM’s FAQ gives this as the login after a factory reset.

How do I reset a BDCOM OLT password?

If you can still log in, use username admin password in configuration mode and run write all. If you cannot log in, try the CTRL + P monitor-mode method, or factory reset with delete startup-config and reboot.

Does a factory reset delete my ONU configuration?

Yes. It erases the whole configuration, including VLANs and ONU bindings. Save a copy of the config before you reset.

Is there a reset button on a BDCOM OLT?

No. Reset is done from the command line over the console.

Should I keep the default password?

No. Change it on first login and run write all, because the default is publicly known.

Conclusion

A BDCOM OLT logs in with admin/admin after a reset, and you should change it on day one. If you lose a password, try the CTRL + P method first and use a factory reset only as a last step. For more commands, see BDCOM OLT All Commands and the BDCOM OLT FAQ and Command Reference.
