How to register an IMEI number in Nepal? MDMS Nepal

NTA says that phones brought from abroad for personal use before September 15, 2022, are automatically registered in MDMS. If you have bought the phone from an authorized distributor, you do not need to register it as the importer would have already done it.

You can check if the mobile phone is registered or not via mdms.nta.gov.np.

You can also manually register it in the system by following the steps below at no cost for now. In the future, NTA might include a few extra steps for registering individual devices.

Before moving forward, you need to have an image of your citizenship, passport, or any other national ID of less than 1MB in size.

Step 1: Determine your phone’s IMEI number.

You must know the IMEI number of your mobile device before processing the registration. An IMEI number is an identification number that is on the box of the handset.

You can also dial *#06# to find out the IMEI and the serial number of the mobile phone.

Step 2: Visit the NTA platform

Once you find out the IMEI number, go to the link NTA platform at nta.gov.np.

Step 3: Get to Know Your Device

Before you register your IMEI number, check if your device is already registered or not. Click the ‘Know your Device’ option and enter your IMEI number. Alternatively, you can go to mdms.nta.gov.np to know if your device is registered.

Step 4: Create a new registration.

Click on ‘Sign Up’ to begin the registration process. On signing up, you will get two options: one is New Importer, and the other is Individual Application.

Choose ‘Individual Application’ and fill in the details on the form to register your IMEI number.

Also, make sure to get an image file of your citizenship/passport or any other national identification document (less than 1MB in size) as you will need to upload it as well.
